Cardiovascular Specialist

Cardiac Credentialing International (CCI) is the testing organization which tests and awards registry to personnel actively working in hospital cardiology departments. Upon passing these examinations you will be awarded the title Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist and may wear the initials "RCIS" after your name (Previously called RCVT). Depending on your employer, this may raise their salary or qualify them for a higher level position with increased responsibilities. Cardiovascular Science Exam:

Now offered on computer at any time to graduates of unapproved CVT and ultrasound programs and to CVTs who are NOT already registered nurses or radiologic techs. The Basic CV Science exam tests background knowledge prerequisite to the RCVT & RCIS. Exam contents include:

  • Basic Concepts (20%)
  • General Anatomy and Physiology (5%)
  • Cardiovascular Anatomy and Physiology (50%)
  • Quality Assurance/ Quality Control (5%)
  • Patient Care (15%)
  • Pharmacology (5%)

Invasive RCIS Exam

Now offered on computer at any time to RNs, RTs, and CVT graduates of approved programs, and CVTs who HAVE passed the basic CV Science exam. The Invasive RCIS exam tests knowledge and skill essential to work in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Exam contents include:

  • Cardiac Anatomy and Physiology (5%)
  • Cardiovascular Diseases/Physiology (8%)
  • Diagnostic Techniques (19%)
  • Interventions (15%)
  • Hemodynamic Data (15%)
  • Pharmacology (7%)
  • Patient Care/ Patient Assessment (13%)

ARRT's Cardiac Interventional Radiologist (CIR)

The Cardiac exam is offered only to registered radiologic technologists by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. It is similar to CCI's RCIS content matrix, with increased emphasis on cardiac catheterization equipment and instrumentation. Thus,both groups (CVTs & RTs) can benefit from this book. You may receive a free updated exam matrix outline and overview from ARRT on request.
